Task: Photograph everything

Task: Photograph everything

The first thing to do was to take a set of photos.  There’s no way that you’ll remember where things go on the machine unless you can see it.  I first recorded a movie that gives an all-round view of how the bike was before I started work.

I’ve actually lost count of the number of times I’ve referred to this movie.  Whilst I could have achieved something similar by taking a set of still pictures, I’d have had to anticipate better what pictures I’d have wanted to look at.  I also took about 36 still pictures, but the movie was definitely a good idea.  I also took pictures as I took the machine apart.

You can see from this picture pretty-well what the bike looked like when I bought it.  I thought it a good-looking machine (still do), although it really was a very filthy thing.  Every plastic component was broken (not just cracked) and many of the metal components were corroded.

On the positive side, many of the fasteners used were stainless steel.  I did buy quite a lot of stainless fasteners, though; pretty-well all of the external fasteners are now stainless.

I carried on taking photos as I dismantled the bike and took about 135 in total.  Some were useful, some not.
