If you’re thinking about undertaking a rebuild/ modernisation, then know in advance that it will be a mountain of work and it’ll cost a fortune. I wasn’t scared of the work, mostly because I’d previously rebuilt a (relatively new) Ducati 900SS. I’m a reasonable mechanic, and I’m quite methodical. But as you’ll see if you have the stamina to read all of this, this Moto Guzzi was a completely different prospect. The bike started life as a Mille GT, but had been ‘café-race’ styled by a former owner. Anyway, a movie was passed to me by the eBay seller that showed at least that the engine started and idled OK. Beside that, I bought the bike unseen. I also didn’t do much research into the Mille GT, which dates from about 1987, and sported Guzzi’s biggest engine at the time. When it was new, it had pretty neutral reviews.
