Training is so important. In the RN there were three basic types of training provided. General Naval Training (basic training and staff training) that prepared us for life at whichever rank you held; Discipline training that provided knowledge appropriate to your specialisation; and pre-joining training, that provided you with the specialist knowledge needed for whichever job you were to be sent to.
In the civilian world, you arguably need similar. So, management training, which hopefully would be provided by your employer; specialist training (such as undergraduate or postgraduate courses), which you may need source through your own efforts; and – well – I’m not sure about what pre-joining training one could usefully anticipate, but it would be good if your employer assisted you here. Whatever training you do though, pay attention and take it seriously; training time should be time well invested – in you.
