This is a clock from the USA that’s quite sought after there. These used to grace American railway stations and were both pretty accurate and reliable. It’s weight driven, with a dead-beat movement. Seth Thomas clocks were made in Plymouth Hollow, Connecticut and this model was produced for a very long time – from 1873 up to the 1950’s. This one is a little more modern; I understand that Seth Thomas made more of them in the 1970’s, probably to commemorate the US Bicentennial. Seth Thomas ceased manufacturing in 2001. Originally, the clock will have had a certificate label with a serial number, but that’s been removed/ lost. The giveaway here is, I think, the screws that secure the door hinges, which are cross-headed. I bought it on eBay here in the UK, where I suspect the cost realised would have been enormously less than it would have fetched in its native America. I love this clock and am very pleased to own it.
