It’s astonishing how complicated the taxation regime is. Income tax; road tax; duty on fuel, alcohol, cigarettes etc; inheritance taxation; the list seems completely endless. And then there are quirks like student loans, that are effectively a levy that raises more money.
I do understand that we’ve been manipulated through the tax regime (take the tax on alcohol as just one example) and I do see that governing a country is immensely complex and espensive. But does it really need to be so damned complicated? I suspect not. Can we please have well-thought-through and radical changes, please?
